Gerrit, Assistant Plant Manager & Safety Expert

"I think what is unique about working at Agrifirm is that you have opportunities to grow, regardless of where you start at Agrifirm. I have been working at Agrifirm for 37 years."

What do you do at Agrifirm?

I am assistant plant manager and safety expert at Agrifirm in Drachten. I deal with everything that has to do with SAP, in terms of stocks but also handling complaints, maintaining the stock management system, planning the shifts and everything else that goes with it in terms of ship unloading and car reception. Safety is of paramount importance at Agrirm and I spend a lot of time on that as well.

  • Can you tell us something about the team in which you work?

Our team is nineteen people including thirteen production personnel, three mechanics, assistant farm manager, farm manager and technical coördinator.

What is unique about working at Agrifirm?

I think what is unique about working at Agrifirm is that you have opportunities to grow, regardless of where you start at Agrifirm. I have been working at Agrifirm for 37 years. I just passed the yellow belt. That was a very good training program where you learn how to properly implement an improvement process in your plant.

What are you proud of?

I am proud to work at Agrifirm and to have been given the opportunity to grow. And I get energy from my work when I see trucks driving off our property with good feed that a farmer gets good results with.

How do you contribute to a responsible food chain with your team?

This begins with the purchase of raw materials. Agrifirm has a certain standard whereby raw materials must be cultivated responsibly, for example soy. And think also of livestock feed that is sold in accordance with a certain standard and norms.
