The projects Maartje works on require both technical depth and creativity. That is precisely what she loves about her role: building bridges between research and application. Whether it concerns animal health, nutritional solutions or resilience, Maartje is committed to making research tangible for farmers and advisors.

    If you ask Maartje what makes her work special, she doesn’t have to think twice: it’s the people.

    “Brainstorming with colleagues, co-creating in teams, talking to clients – that’s what gives me energy.”

    Innovation doesn’t just happen in the lab; it arises from conversations, experiences and collaborations. As she herself says, every collaboration brings new insights. When different disciplines come together, solutions emerge that really make a difference.

What are you proud of?

On a lot of things. But if I have to mention 1 thing: how the R&D team works together and works towards the main goals. In the end, it's really about how the team is put together. They are really super motivated, they are very loyal to Agrifirm, they have clear goals that contribute to the projects. They have a good sense of what is going on in the business, they know who they need for what. Twice a year there is an R&D event and then a lot of energy flows. R&D team leads also meet regularly and you can see that this goes very well. It is a very international and diverse team with a good male/female ratio.
